Hammer & Anvil - What's in the book?
Give your characters the equipment they with this brand new 5th edition supplement that lets you design and build bespoke adventuring gear!
Hammer & Anvil introduces new rules for crafting new weapons, armour, shields, and mechanical contraptions. There are rules for creating powerful magic items for those with minds meant for magic, not machinery.
With Hammer & Anvil, we wanted to give your characters the equipment they need to fulfil their dreams! We created this book to expand the 5e ruleset to allow for bespoke equipment using magical materials. Your characters can now turn their hard-earned loot into weapons, armour, and magic items that match your vision of who they are.
Fire and Steel
While on your adventures, you’ve likely “acquired” mountains of loot from monsters’ hoards and bandits’ hideouts. With this entirely legit salvage in hand, you now have the opportunity to transform it into something truly unique.
In any given dragon’s treasure trove, you can find an abundance of discarded scales and fangs, along with mountains of coins, precious metals and stones. With Hammer & Anvil, you can transform these raw materials into specialised adventuring gear. You could take that mountain of coins, and use it to coat your weapons in silver, ideal for challenging that vampire who’s been striking the town at night. You can design your own custom suit of armour, studded with emeralds and rubies to add the Inspiring trait. You could even forge a new Tower Shield and coat it with the dragon scales, imparting its resilience against attacks and its resistance to fire.
If you and your allies are armed to the teeth, you can still enhance your equipment to make it even deadlier. You can reinforce your fighter’s plate armour with hell-forged steel to make it Sturdy. You can encrust your dwarven barbarian’s ancestral axe with blood-ruby shards to deal Lingering Wounds, and you can string your hand-crafted bow with the ivy from a world-weight oak to make it Armour Piercing.
Bandit camps are packed full of scrap metal and other supplies you can repurpose for your creations. With our new Invention rules, you can gather their swords, axes, and helmets to melt down into the new blades for the plough. You can wheel out the coal barrels at the bottom of the mine to fuel your experimental engine. You could even tan the rawhides found among their hunting supplies for leather seats! Be it a coal-fired, steel-forged drill or a ratcheting wooden ballista, your inventions will have a meaningful impact on the world around you.
The Magic of Creation
Hammer & Anvil is built to provide your character with the equipment they deserve, and an essential part of your character’s gear is the magic items at their disposal. With our new magic item enchanting rules, you can transform magical raw materials into brand-new objects of power!
- On top of providing you with the rules to make any magic item you can discover the recipe for, we have also included 100 new magic item recipes for you to get started with! Here are some of our favourites:
- The Armour of the Wilds grants you unparalleled movement through the wilderness. Dense vegetation won’t be able to restrain you, and you’ll gain some power to teleport!
- The Celestial Cape will let you briefly transform, gaining some measure of the power and majesty reserved only for angels.
- The Circlet of Storms allows you to channel the powers of the tempest, unleashing torrents of lightning and riding the winds!
- The Reliquary Weapon, blessed with divine power, grants your cleric or paladin an additional use of their Channel Divinity feature and a new Channel Divinity option: Bolster the Righteous!
- The Armour of Stone and Blood lets you trade your current hit points for a stockpile of temporary hit points, making you vulnerable for the short term in return for immense resilience.
Legends and Heroes
When you’re building up your world for your players to adventure in, you can communicate the age and scale of your setting with mythic artefacts. The means of how these objects were created and many of the motivations behind their creation have been lost, though modern scholars do have their theories.
Adventurers discovering these artefacts have found great potential to change their world forever. They can use these artefacts to defeat enemies, thwart schemes, and slay titanic monsters! Once the players have recovered an artefact, a target gets painted on their backs. Duplicitous villains will want to steal the artefact for themselves, and well-meaning allies might believe themselves to be worthier bearers of power. Your adventures will be infused with higher stakes and tense drama as the players come to terms with their newfound power.
Hammer & Anvil is the 5e supplement that will give your characters the adventuring gear they deserve. With this book, you’ll put your ingenuity to the test and be rewarded for your creative designs! You can use the mundane and magical materials of your world to complete your vision of your character.
