Ruins of the Past: The Crawling Pits of Gharrentia

Welcome back to another preview for Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound’s next supplement: Ruins of the Past. This time, we’re going to dive into the grot and spider-infested Crawling Pits of Gharrentia. This hotly contested adventure location in the heartlands of Ghur is centered around the captured Godbeast Fangathrak and the coveted active realmgate deep within its massive maw.

The great Orruk Warlord Gordrakk fought long and hard to capture Fangathrak. The Godbeast is now wedged into a massive Ghurish canyon, its maw forced open, and its body lashed down with countless ropes, chains and spider webs. The arcway within the Godbeast’s gullet connects Ghur to the Eightpoints, where Gordrakk now leads his nigh-endless Waaagh! to battle Chaos forces in the Bloodwind Spoil — hundreds of Ironjawz Orruks spill through the realmgate each day, and the Crawling Pits surrounding the beast act as the waystation of the Waaagh!

But with Warlord Gordrakk away leading the Waaagh! – and most of the Ironjawz forces following behind him – those left in Ghur must pick up the scraps. As Orruk and Grot temperaments go, when one Boss is away, another often rises to take their place. The Megaboss Urgak Gitcracka has been left with the less-than-glorious job of shuffling forces into the maw, diminishing the forces of his own warband with every muster — and gradually lessening his grasp on holding the Pits, when all he really wants is to follow his Boss into the Bloodwind Spoil.

The Gloomspite Gits, whose homes were Gharrentia’s canyons long before Fangathrak’s capture, maintain Gordrakk’s bidding to subdue the Godbeast with their poisons and army of giant spiders. But with Gitcracka’s iron grip weakening and the abuse they receive from the Ironjawz, perhaps they should reclaim control over the Mawgate and get their home back in the process.

And deep within the chasms below, a third king aims to reign supreme over the Crawling Pits, one with a particular appetite for spider meat, wielding a bottomless hunger and a hoard of treasures to sway the Spiderfang Grots under his control…

The Crawling Pits of Gharrentia adventure location is packed with orruk-focussed battles and grot-like scheming. Among the prize of accessing the Mawgate, the canyon and pits surrounding it are rife with amberbone deposits and a hidden Stormvault — there’s more than enough to keep a party occupied, whether the pits are their next target or simply a Ghur-themed detour through the realms.
