What's inside the Age of Sigmar: Soulbound Starter Set box?

The Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Soulbound  Starter Set contains everything needed to have adventures in the Mortal Realms!

As we plan to release the PDF for the Starter Set next Monday - Sep 28th, we thought we would spend a little more time discussing  the process to give you a bit of ‘behind the scenes’ on the project.

The Starter Set is chock-full of useful things for your Soulbound game. Not only do you get a complete learn-as-you-play adventure, you also get a guide to the city of Brightspear and eight new one-page adventures — each of these can easily provide a session or two for your group and come with the monsters and information needed to run the adventure (including a few new ones for those of you with the core rulebook). These adventures highlight some of the unique locations in Brightspear, bringing the city to life as a great place to set your first Soulbound campaign.

Producing a guide with such a broad range of offerings requires a team, and we relied upon our internal folks and a bevy of experienced freelancers to ensure we had a wide range of input into the newest City of Sigmar. With assignments in hand, the team brought the Mortal Realms to life for Soulbound. We can’t wait for you to check everything out.

But that’s not all. We also have a set of pregenerated characters so you can jump in and play from the word ‘go’, each with their own goals and connections to the rest of the party. The Starter Set also includes reference sheets that even the most veteran gamers will find useful, including maps of Brightspear and the surrounding area, an action reference, a selection of commonly used spells (including a new Endless Spell) and the Price of Failure chart for when your spells go awry (a personal favourite). We also include dice as well as tokens for Mettle, Soulfire, and Doom. As you play the game, the characters acquire and spend the first two, while Doom is the province of the GM.

Finally there’s the main adventure, Faltering Light. It provides an in-character overview of the city, an introduction to some of its most influential citizens, and sees the party tasked with a mission that only they can accomplish. They’ll explore the city both above and below as they seek an ancient secret, one of both terrible power and consequence for the future of Brightspear. As you play the adventure, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the Soulbound rules and will be ready to use the core rules to make your own characters and send them on new adventures!

A major part of Faltering Light is the exploration of the city and the ancient citadel below. The adventure provides rules that allow for every venture into Brightspear’s dangerous Undercity to follow a different path, leading the characters to discover different places, enemies, and secrets every time. Several of the smaller adventure outlines and seeds take advantage of this system, making every trip beneath Brightspear into a new experience.
