Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound, Era of the Beast: From the Mists!

Welcome back to another #MortalRealmsMonday! With Era of the Beast just released, today we’re going to give you some insight into one of the book’s most anticipated chapters: the Kruleboyz Bestiary!

Era of the Beast has a whole chapter dedicated to the Kruleboyz’ origins and exploits, including statblocks for sixteen of their units – faithfully recreated from the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar tabletop game – accompanied by amazing profiles and character art by our team. To tease all the GM’s out there (and provide some sneaky intel for the players), we’d like to share with you some of the Kruleboyz’ mechanical aspects, and how they can be deployed in your adventures.

A major mechanic that the Kruleboyz excel at is spreading fear and then playing off their Frightened enemies. This can be easily demonstrated by the Gutrippaz, the bulk of the Kruleboyz infantry. They have two useful Traits that work in concert when more than one Gutrippa is working together. The first Gutrippa can use their Skare Taktikz as an action to instil fear into a nearby enemy until the end of their next turn – not only is that unit naturally rolling one less dice on their next turn, but they become better targets for the rest of the warband. Another Gutrippa can then assault that character, armed with their Skareshield Charge trait, which prevents their defence from decreasing since their target is Frightened.

A single pair of Gutrippaz can work well together, but this concept expands into the other Kruleboyz. Higher up the Klaw are Orruks that can cause fear en-masse, allowing units like the Gutrippaz to better utilise their benefits and pick their targets.

Another major pillar of the Kruleboyz design is employing their wide selection of mounts; the array of vile swamp creatures they’ve captured and forced into servitude under them. Check out the new Grot Snatcha-Krew and Marshcrawla Sloggoth art by our amazing in-house artist Sam Manley.

The Marshcrawla Sloggoth is a fearsome beast on its own, a nigh-unkillable regenerating close combat powerhouse. The Grot Snatcha-Krew on top guiding the beast are the final component of their deadly assault. When they’re not beating their war drums to rile up their Orruk allies, they can use their Catchin’ Nets and Snatcha-stikks to restrain a nearby enemy, making them even easier pickings for the Marshcrawla to assault. Throughout the Kruleboyz bestiary we’ve designed mounts and their riders to work hand-in-hand to be challenging enemies and combat puzzles to really put players to the test.

But that’s not all! We didn’t even get to the Swampcalla Shamans, Breaka Bosses or Hobgrot Slittaz! Each and every member of the Kruleboyz has at least one nasty trick up their sleeve.
