Dom's End of Year Round-up!

As promised, we have put together a post containing all of our highlights from 2020. We plan to share a look ahead to 2021 in January - keep an eye out for that in the new year!

While 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, we have thankfully been able to adjust to working and collaborating remotely, allowing us to release numerous titles. Once we had adapted to the new way of working, the major impacts were the lockdown closures of our retailer partners, a slowing of our manufacturers, and major delays to global shipping. There’s not much we can do about shipping, but we have made changes to our manufacturing to address the second point, and we are going as fast as we can to give stores lots of new things to sell.

This year also introduces us to virtual conventions, allowing us to chat to many of you, run games and stay connected to the community we missed seeing in person. Our team has continued to grow significantly this year and we are well positioned to grow our release schedule in 2021!

Earlier in the year, we began to share video updates from myself and the team, and we plan to continue these into 2021. We’ll be inviting more of the extended team to join us to offer you a rounded picture of how we create the games you love and to offer new perspectives on our process. We’d love your suggestions on what else you would like to see in these videos - why not leave a comment under this post on Facebook or Twitter? Have you seen our new end of year video round up? You can find it and all of our videos on our youtube channel here.

One of our goals from early in 2020 was to launch official VTT support especially as it was something the Warhammer community had been asking for. After a lot of work behind the scenes we are delighted to now offer options for WFRP on both Roll20 and The Foundry VTT. We are working to get more of our titles (for WFRP and other lines) onto these VTT’s in 2021.

Recently we chose to change our printers to increase our print capacity for next year as our release schedule is jam packed (more on that in January!). The new printer is renowned for their quality so you can expect the same high standard on all of our books. As mentioned, this does mean there is a small delay on a few current projects due to the change over to working with a new partner, namely Death on the Reik and its Companion. We expect to commence sending pre-orders for Death on the Reik and the Companion in February/March 2021, following that the books will make their way to stores.

We have also had some unavoidable delays to our US shipments due to Covid related congestion in global logistics. This means US Wrath & Glory rulebook pre-orders will now dispatch in January 2021. Pre-orders to other destinations have already been sent from our Irish Warehouse. We really appreciate your patience on these delays and are working towards faster lead times.

There are still a few days left  to buy our current Humble Bundle offer for Warhammer 40,000 Only War and Black Crusade here, we are always delighted to be part of these bundles that raise funds for worthy charities - in 2020 Cubicle 7 bundles raised more than $160k.

Our customer service team will be taking a short break over the Holidays and responses to emails and social media queries may be slower in the days around December 25th, but we will get back to everyone once we are back to work.

My highlight from this year was seeing WFRP Enemy in Shadows and Age of Sigmar: Soulbound on shelves in gaming stores, and holding the Collector’s editions in my hands! Some of you have been receiving your print copies of Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Wrath & Glory and we can’t wait to see it in stores in January!

Below I’ve shared more highlights from the last twelve months, why not check it out to see what you might have missed? And if you are new to Cubicle 7 - welcome! You’ll find some intro information on our RPGs here to help get you started and as always our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages have all the latest info!

I’d like to wish you a peaceful holiday and thank you for your continued support -  every purchase, download and engagement online has been noticed, welcomed and appreciated! We end this year very excited for what’s to come in 2021 and we look forward to having you along for the journey!

WFRP Blog Highlights from 2020

Over the last few months we have been sharing lots of rich and useful content on our blog from Pádraig Murphy and the extended WFRP team. We hope it has been helpful in your own games!

Hunting Monsters for Fun & Profit - by Pádraig Murphy

Hunting monsters is, in many ways, the low-hanging fruit of roleplaying games of every stripe. Much like kicking off an adventure in a tavern, or clearing a basement of giant rats, it’s very much a case of been there, slew that. Read on here for three arguments for pursuing this kind of adventure in your game all the same!

Magic Systems - Clive  Oldfield

Clive started playing WFRP virtually the day it came out, back in 1986 and has contributed to the second, third and fourth editions of the RPG, as well as the officially unofficial Warpstone magazine and so is an excellent source of information! The magic rules for WFRP are made up from a number of smaller systems. Clive discusses the fundamentals of spell casting in WFRP, and a few tweaks to the existing systems. Read part 1 here and part 2 here.

Adventure Hooks - Graeme Davis

Graeme has been involved with WFRP since the very beginning and is currently working on the Enemy Within campaign with WFRP producer Pádraig Murphy and the C7 team. This five part series of articles on adventure hooks to use in your WFRP games proved very popular! If you missed out when we first shared, now is the perfect time to catch up! Find part one here, part two here, part three here, part four here and the final article here

WFRP: Death on the Reik and its ancestry by Graeme Davis

When many WFRP fans talk about the Enemy Within campaign, they are mostly thinking about Death on the Reik. That is quite understandable: this sprawling adventure contains so much that became iconic about the campaign, and about WFRP itself. River travel, of course, and mutant attacks, scheming cultists, warpstone, bizarre NPCs — and, of course, an ending that leaves the Characters wondering whether they actually won. Read on here.

WFRP: The Talons of Verena - TS Luikart

C7 writer TS Luikart shared this article about a secretive, and somewhat shady, group known only as the Talons of Verena! The group can be used in your WFRP games in a number of ways. If you’re thinking of starting off a new campaign, they provide an unusual framework about which to build a group of adventurers. Read on here.

WFRP: Folk and Folklore of the North

WFRP Developer Dave Allen wrote a series of blog posts on Folk and Folklore of the North, find part 1 here, part 2 here , part 3 here and part 4 here. The Reikland is the heart of the Empire, at least insofar as its citizens like to think. They imagine themselves the beneficiaries of long history and rich culture. Altdorfers, whilst grateful for the efforts the folk of northern provinces make in defying Beastmen and Norscan raiders, can also be somewhat dismissive of their remote countrymen.

WFRP: The Purple Hand Clarification - SPOILERS AHEAD

WFRP producer Pádraig Murphy answered a question sent in by dedicated WFRP community member Ralph Kruhm, who got in touch with us to discuss some inconsistencies on exactly where the notorious Kastor Lieberung calls home. The eagle-eyed Ralph spotted that, while Enemy in Shadows clearly states that Kastor was once a member of the Nuln branch but now calls Middenheim home. The question of where exactly the supposed fortune he inherited was due to be delivered was unclear — was it Nuln, Altdorf, or Middenheim? Continue reading if you dare here.

These characters undergo the agonising Binding Ritual to tie their souls together and become divinely blessed heroes for the forces of order.

Daemonslayers, not Ratcatchers- Chris Walz

With the release of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound, the first RPG in the Age of Sigmar setting, the team listened to the community on Facebook, Discord, and across other platforms. We’ve noticed players saying Soulbound was one of their first tabletop roleplaying experiences. Lots of folks have played popular fantasy roleplaying games, and with that comes a lot of questions and, sometimes, expectations for how other fantasy games might work.  While Soulbound shares a broad genre with other popular fantasy RPGs, it also has its own unique differences. C7 editor Chris Walz discussed it here.

Encounter Design - Elaine Lithgow

C7 line developer Elaine Lithgow wrote two articles on combat encounters, specifically to show some of the versatility of the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soulbound system. Find part 1 here and part 2 here.
