Imperium Maledictum Starter set

Welcome back, agents and patrons alike, to Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Imperium Maledictum. Today, we’re going to give you another sneak peek at the Imperium Maledictum Starter Set as we climb up from the Bowels & Beyond and enter the lowest levels of hive Rokarth.

Rokarth’s lower hive is a tightly packed sprawl of manufactorums and crowded habs, most inhabited by some of the many millions of labourers whose toil serves the Emperor — and pays a sliver of Voll’s tithe. They are guided in their labours by overseers who report, in their turn, to their betters in the upper hive. So long as productivity and order are maintained, there is little cause for such people to even consider the lower hive or its denizens. When intervention is required, a cadre of Macharian Vigilites marches out from their bastions to ensure the Emperor’s peace is preserved.

For citizens on this level, survival is possible, but hardly certain. Most sectors are plagued by frequent blackouts. The many manufactorums receive their share of power as a matter of priority, often to the detriment of residential districts. Sometimes power conduits simply collapse, degraded by centuries of infrequent maintenance. People live off what meagre sustenance is granted them, sometimes supplemented by alms distributed by the Ministorum’s cathedrums. What coin they do manage to accrue is often spent on weaponry, as life is cheap, and few can risk going about unarmed. Infractionists run rampant throughout the Lower Hive. Though they might crow of the freedom and power they enjoy, most gangers and other infractionists live and die in the district of their birth — just like every other citizen around them.

As with every level of Rokarth, heresy lurks in the shadows of the lower hive. The abundant gangs and criminal organisations provide a convenient cover for any thrall of the Ruinous Powers to hide behind. All the while, strange forces reach in from other levels to corrupt those with nowhere to run. Remember to report any heresy you uncover to your Patron, Inquisitor Halikarn, who will undoubtedly reward you for your vigilance.

Rokarth: A Guide to the Hive, included with the Starter Set, details each of Hive Rokarth’s four levels, including overviews of what life is like for people living there, an encounter table for each level, and a number of unique locations and NPCs. All are designed to aid the GM in running The Blazing Seraph, the Starter Set’s Adventure, and provide you with plot hooks to further your adventures beyond.

The Imperium Maledictum Starter Set is the perfect entry point into Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Imperium Maledictum, tailored for new players and new GMs alike. Keep an eye on the Cubicle 7 Entertainment Blog for even more sneak peeks in the coming weeks.
